The Future- Redefined By Google Glasses Technology
What is Google Glass?
Google glass is also called as Project Glass, it is a R&D program funded by Google. It is a gadget to develop an Augmented Reality Head Mounted Display. It is an attempt by Google to make a wearable Computing system and it is a smart pair of Glasses which is integrated with Heads-up display.
The purpose of the Project Glass/ Google Glass is to provide all possible information right in front of your retina and allow user to interact with that using head gestures and voice commands, similar to what siri does in iphones and iris in android.
Google glass is said to make use of Android as operating system software.
How does Google Glass/Project Glass work?
According to some sources Google’s Project Glass glasses will make use of a transparent LCD or AMOLED display to show information in front of your eye. It will be aware of location as it is integrated with a camera and GPS, and user can scroll and select the information by tilting his/her head. Google Glasses will also use voice input and output.
Here is one Amazing video demonstrating one of the features of Google Glasses:
The above video demonstrated the Google hangout of Sky Divers.
The following video demonstrates the use of Augmented reality features.
After watching these two videos everyone will be telling themselves that this is a brilliant idea. And would definitely buy one of those, its a cool gadget to hang out with isn’t? Yes, indeed
.
But think what would happen to the social life of ours when such a technology is used extensively. Just give it a thought, and what heights it could reach? It might have both pros and cons and it might be too scary to imagine sometimes. I would like you to watch the following video before you go on reading further.
Video is done by students of the Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design in Jerusalem, the video showcases their perception of the future where everyone is constantly wired through augmented reality contact lenses.
The Internet and media like this is separating us of from the real things in life:
You can find tons of studies and articles showing how social media and internet is making people sad, sick , frustrated, irritated in life. As we spend more and more time with internet and web, definitely we will lose touch with the real things in life. As days to come you can expect many more real life instances to be replaced by virtual technological experience. In the video we saw virtual indoor SkyDiving, Virtual shopping from home instead of going out with family or friends to buy at some malls or shops. Technology in the name of saving time is increasing the bridge of gap between the people.
Online profiles will set the tone of our first date:
We are all interconnected through social media after the origin of Orkut, Facebook and Twitter. And people these days are using these media to find there life partners. According to recent survey revealed that almost 50% of Singaporeans use their online social networks to find their partners. The days where one spend time knowing one another through daily face to face interactions as well as spending time with one another will soon be replaced by data from digital footprints. Though this is a surprising fact but we have lots of such examples right in front of our eyes. Couples will soon discover one another based on each other’s online profiles. Digital data like posts and status updates that we post will set the tone of our dates in future.
Daily tasks will be gamified and skills are accessible through the Internet:
The way in which technology is growing, the way in which certain things are supposed to be done are also changing at the same rate. There were days when people used to learn things in the hard way, finding the right teacher to teach was a major concern in those days but they are over now and it is least concerned matter now. Google provides all the things one can think of ,within the reach of your finger tips from building a website, how to hack , how to drive, how to swim, how to repair, how to learn new languages and many more. Skills can be easily obtained from the guides that are published on the web. Executing certain task is just a matter of copy and pasting. The video demonstrated how Google Glass transforms cooking into a gaming and makes it pretty interesting and it gives scores on doing the things correctly and helps one master the task in this way. People do care more about scores and post it on social networking site to impress others than mastering a task for there own good .
While technology brings us more convenience, it is up to us to decide whether we Rule it or It Rules us! and controls our life. Giving too much power to technology might cause havoc in our life and it may consume our life unknowingly. This is message that the students who have done this video are sending. Giving power isn’t a difficult job but taking it back is a hard nut to crack...

Interesting concept ! Google Glass live demo from Google I/O was totally awesome . But i think this is just the beginning.
I feel a lot of work has to be done in this area with regard to the capabilities showing in the promotional video to what it is as of now . The progress of this project may change the way how users live in a digital world.
My thoughts on this here :
